If you live in the city, your connections with nature are few and far between. And that’s not a good thing because our health is greatly affected by the environment we live in.
If it’s stressful then you will be stressed. Just think about the last time you walked through a forest or on the beach. You were most likely stress-free. The bad news is most of us can’t be in Negril 24/7. The good news is you can reproduce that effect at home… with a simple houseplant.
The science
A study published in the National Library of Medicine suggests that caring for plants is a great way to reduce stress.
Results show that active interaction with indoor plants can reduce physiological and psychological stress. “This is accomplished through suppression of sympathetic nervous system activity and diastolic blood pressure and promotion of comfortable, soothed, and natural feelings”.

If stress or anxiety is a problem for you, adopting one of these three plants might create the calm you were looking for:
Snake plant - Produces oxygen at night and is super easy to take care of, so if you’re thumb isn’t so green this is the one for you. It’s on NASA’s Top 10 list of air-purifying plants.
Lavender - There’s a good reason why you’ll smell this in most spas. The scent helps relieve stress and reduce restlessness making it the perfect plant to combat stress.
Rubber Tree - Also on NASA’s top 10 list, the Rubber plant (Ficus) is low-maintenace, purifies the air and brings calm to any room.
